TREE SEPHIROT

The Tree of Sephiroth can be considered an invaluable compendium of the secret philosophy that was originally the spirit and soul of Hasidism. Kabbalah is Israel's priceless heritage, but every year the number of people who understand its principles becomes fewer and fewer. The Jew today, unless he has a sense of the depth of the doctrines of his people, is usually imbued with the most dangerous form of ignorance, modernism, and considers the Kabala either an evil to be avoided like the plague, or a ridiculous superstition that has survived the black magic of the dark ages. And yet, without the key contained in the Kabbalah, it is impossible for either Jews or pagans to unravel the spiritual secrets of both the Old and New Testaments.

The Tree of Sephiroth consists of ten balls of radiant splendor, arranged in three vertical columns and connected by twenty-two channels or paths. The ten balls are called Sephiroth, to which are assigned numbers from 1 to 10. The three columns are called Mercy (on the right), Cruelty (on the left) and between them Temperance as the force that unites them. The columns may represent Wisdom, Strength and Beauty, which form the threefold support of the universe, because the foundation of all things is said to be Three. The twenty-two channels are the letters of the Hebrew alphabet, to which the main cards of the Tarot deck are also assigned.

TREE SEPHIROT

The materialistic phenomenon of growth is a moment of movement from the outside, a kind of expansion through which the process of the emergence of form begins. For the philosopher, however, growth is an inward movement, but not a contraction, but a direction of consciousness towards the center of being. The manner in which the Indian fakir grows a whole mango tree from a seed in a few moments is analogous to the process of philosophical mysticism in which there is a miraculous unfolding of the human soul and in the course of which the fruits are produced much earlier than is possible at that age. This tree-soul grows in an almost incomprehensible way to the source of its own seed and finally connects the two worlds. The Kabbalistic tree of organized manifestation is not only a macrocosmic symbol, but also the emblem of man himself, because he too is rooted in the spirit and, in order to achieve perfection, must finally withdraw from the four worlds and go into his own seed. To a certain extent, man's conscious functions at this level of existence correspond to his thoughts. Thoughts and emotions are the basis of all attachment. Therefore, one who is attached to physical things is called worldly because his consciousness is the servant of his material pursuits. Asserting his ability to raise consciousness to the level of his thoughts, the ascetic devotes his life to contemplation of the divine. Ascetics of all times have maintained this position, saying that moments of delight in contemplating the higher life make up for all the inconveniences associated with self-restraint. While such achievements are obtained through mortification of the flesh, the philosophy asserts that any person can unfold his latent potential and reach the divine worlds. The tree is a symbol of philosophical growth, while the hair shirt and flagellation signify a sincere but unnatural desire for a higher life.

Eliphas Levi stated that by arranging the Tarot cards in a certain order, everything that could be known about God, the universe and man could be revealed. When the ten numbers relating to the balls (Sephiroth) are combined with the 22 letters relating to the channels, the result is 32, the number inherent in the Kabbalistic Paths of Wisdom. These Paths, sometimes called the thirty-two teeth of the Great Face, or the thirty-two nerves from the Divine Marrow, are analogous to the 32 degrees of Freemasonry, which raise the candidate to the position of Prince of the Royal Secret. Kabbalists also consider it extremely significant that in the original Hebrew Scriptures the name of God appears 32 times in the first chapter of Genesis. (In the English translation of the Bible, the name appears 33 times.) In the mystical analysis of the human body, according to the rabbis, 32 dorsal vertebrae lead up to the skull - the Temple of Wisdom.

The four Kabbalistic trees described in the previous chapter were later combined by Jewish scholars into a single diagram, which was called not only the Sephiroth, but also the Archetypal or Heavenly Adam. According to some authorities, it is this Divine Adam, and not earthly man, who is described in the opening chapters of Genesis. From the substances of this divine man the universe was formed; in it she abides and will remain even when the spheres return again to the original substance; the deity was never considered to be contained in the Sephiroth, which are a purely hypothetical shell used to define the limits of the creative essence. Adolf Frank likens the Sephiroth to the multicolored transparent glass of a vase, filled with pure light, which seems to suggest the color of the vase, but whose nature remains unchanged and unchangeable.

It must always be borne in mind that the Sephiroth and the properties attributed to them, like the tetractys of the Pythagoreans, are simply symbols of the cosmic system with its multiplicity of parts. A truer and fuller understanding of these symbols cannot be revealed either in writing or in words, but must be achieved only through the path of study and meditation. In the Sefer HaZohar it is written that there is clothing - a written doctrine that any person can see. But those who have understanding look not at the clothes, but at the body underneath - at the intellectual and philosophical law. The wisest of all, the servants of the Heavenly King, look to nothing but the soul—spiritual doctrine—which is the eternal and flourishing offspring of the law. Eliphas Levi wrote about this great truth that no one can enter the secret House of Wisdom until he puts on the radiant cap of Apollonius from Tyana or takes into his hands the lamp of Hermes. The cap signifies the quality of self-control which should clothe the seeker with a cloak of strength, while the ever-burning lamps of the sages represent the radiant mind and the perfectly balanced intellect, without which the mysteries of the ages could never be solved.

The Tree of Sephiroth is sometimes depicted as a human body, which establishes the true origin of the first or Divine Man - Adam Kadmon - the idea of ​​the universe. The ten divine Balls (Sephiroth) are considered in this case as analogues of the ten sacred members and organs Protogonos according to the following order: Kether is the crown of the Prototypical Head and probably indicates the pineal gland. Hochma and Binach are the right and left hemispheres of the Great Brain. Chezed and Geburah (Pehal) are the right and left hands respectively, signifying the active creative members of the Great Man. FOUR TREES SEPHIROT

The forty concentric circles shown in the diagram in the previous chapter are arranged here in the form of four trees, each consisting of ten circles. These trees reveal the hierarchy that controls the fate of all creatures. These trees are the same in each of the four possible worlds, but the power contained in each of the balls manifests itself in a different way depending on the substance of each world, which leads to infinite variety.

The later Kabalists also have a division of the Sephirotic tree into five parts, in which the distribution of the balls is as follows:

1. Macroprosophus, or Great Face, is a term applicable to Kether as the first and most sublime of the Sephiroth, and also to the nine powers or Sephiroth emanating from Kether.

2. Abba, or Great Father, is a term applied to Hochma - Universal Wisdom - the first emanation from Kether, but, according to Ibn Gebirol, Hochma represents the Son, Logos, or Word, born from the union of Kether and Vinah.

3. Lima, or Great Mother, is the name by which Vinah, or the third Sephira, is generally known. It is the Holy Spirit from whose body generations come. Being the third person of the Creative Triad, she corresponds to Jehovah or the demiurge.

4. Microprosophus, or Small Face, consists of six Sephiroth: Chesed, Geburah, Tiphareth, Netzach, Hod And Yesod. Microprosophus is often called Lesser Adam or Zauir Anpin, while Macroprosophus, or the Higher Adam, is Arich Anpin. Small Face symbolized by the six-pointed star or the superimposed triangles of Zion, or by the six faces of a cube. They represent the directions of north, east, south, west, up and down, as well as the six days of Creation. In his list of the parts of Microprosophus a MacGregor Mathers includes Binach as the first and highest part of the Lesser Adam, making his constitution septenary. If Microprosophus is considered sixfold, its spheres (Sephiroth) are analogous to the six days of Creation, and the tenth sphere, Malchut, is the Sabbath of rest.

5. Bride of Microprosophus - Malchut - the quintessence of the Sephiroth, a structure composed of four elements. This is the divine Eve, who is taken from one side of the Microprosophus and unites the power of the entire Kabbalistic tree in one sphere, which can be called man.

The Secret of the Sephiroth states that the order of Creation, or the Divine Lightning, which zigzags through the four worlds, according to the hierarchy of divine emanations, is as follows: from AYN SOPH, Nothing and All, Eternal and Unconditional Power, comes Macroprosophus, or Long Face. of which it is written: “In His skull arise every day thirteen thousand myriads of worlds, which receive their existence from Him and are supported by Him” (see “The Great Sacred Assembly”). Macroprosophus, the directed will of AYN SOPH, corresponding to Kether, the Crown of the Sephiroth, gives birth from itself to nine lesser spheres, the sum and beginning of which He is. The 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, the various combinations of which establish the laws of the universe, constitute the scepter of Macroprosophus, which he holds on his fiery throne in Mire Atzilut.

From this external and ancient androgyne, Kether, come Hochma, Great father, and Binach, Great Mother. These two entities are called Abba And Aima, the first of them is a man and the second is a woman, prototypes of the sexes. They correspond to the first two letters of the sacred name Jehovah,

In the Sefer HaZohar it is written: “And, therefore, all things were established in the equality of male and female, because if this were not so, then how could things exist? There is some difference of opinion regarding the relationship of the parts in the first triad. Some Kabbalists, including Ibn Gebirol, viewed Kether as the Father, Binah as the Mother, and Hochmah as the Son. In this kind of construction, Wisdom, which is an attribute of the Son, becomes the creator of the lower spheres. The symbol of Binah is the Dove, the emblem of the purely maternal instinct of the universal mother.

TABLE OF SEPHIROTIC CORRESPONDENCES

This diagram, translated from the Latin, is of particular importance to students of the Kabbalah, and is also an example of Robert Fludd's unusual ability in constructing correspondence tables. Robert Fludd was listed among the prominent Rosicrucians and Freemasons. He was even called the first English Rosicrucian. He is the author of many invaluable documents that shed light on the mystery of the Rosicrucians. A very interesting fact is that his works were published at the same time as the works of Bacon, Shakespeare and the first Rosicrucian authors.

Due to the close similarity of the creative triads with the Christian Trinity, later Kabbalists rearranged the first three Sephira, adding a mysterious point Daaf - hypothetical eleventh Sephira. It is located where the horizontal line connecting Hochmah and Binach intersects the vertical line connecting Kether and Tiphareth. Although Daaf is not mentioned by the early Kabalists, it is a highly important element, and its addition to the Sephirotic Tree was made with full understanding of the significance of this action. If Hochma is considered as the active, intelligent energy of Kether and Binach is the receptive faculty of Kether, then Daaf becomes a thought which, being created by Chochma, flows into Binah. The postulation of Daath clarifies the problem of the Creative Trinity, because it is represented in the diagram as consisting of Chochmah (Father), Binah (Mother, Holy Spirit) and Daaf (Word by which the world was formed). Isaac Mayer downplays the importance of Daaf, believing that this subterfuge hides the fact that Kether, and not Chochmah, is the true Father of the creative Triad. He makes no attempt to give a satisfactory explanation of the symbolism of this hypothetical Sephira.

TREE OF THE SEPHIROT OF THE LATER KABALISTS

According to Kabbalists, the universe is divided into four worlds, each of which consists of ten spheres. It is important to know how these ten spheres of each world are located and relate to each other in the so-called tree of Sephiroth. This tree is composed of ten circles representing the numbers 1 to 10 and connected to each other by twenty-two channels or paths - the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. According to the original concept, from the union of the Divine Father and the Divine Mother we get Microprosophus, Short Face or Small Face, which is stated in Yetzirah, the World of Creation, and corresponds to the letter

(V) Great Name. The six powers of Microprosophus flow from and are contained in their own source, which is Binach, the mother or Lesser Adam. Three vertical columns support the universal system represented by the Sephirotic Tree. The central column is based in Kether, eternity. It passes down through the hypothetical Sephira, Daaf, and then through Tiphareth and Yesod and rests on the solid foundation of Malchut, the last of the spheres. The true role of the central pillar is balance. It demonstrates how the deity manifests itself through the emanation of the poles from its center, while remaining free from the illusion of polarity. If we add up the numbers of the four Sephiroth in this column 1 + 6 + 9 + 10, the sum will be equal to 26, which is the number of Jehovah (see the chapter on Pythagorean mathematics).

The column on the right, called Jachin, has its basis in Chochma, the source of the wisdom of God; the three balls on this column have masculine properties. The column on the left is called Boaz. The three balls on it are feminine and receptive forces, because they have a basis in understanding, receptive and maternal force. Wisdom, as has already been observed, is regarded as a pouring or radiating force, and understanding as a receptive force which is filled with the flow of wisdom. All three columns finally unite in the Sephira Malchut, in which all the forces of the higher worlds are manifested.

The four balls on the central column reveal the functions of the creative force in various worlds. The creative force of the first world is the will, the divine cause; in the second world, the hypothetical Daaf, the Word emanating from divine thought. In the third world - Tiphareth, the Sun, or focal point between God and nature; in the fourth world it has a double function, since it is the positive and negative poles of the reproductive system, where Yesod is the male pole and Malchut is the female pole.

Yesod or "base"- Sephira of the astral plane, akash. Yesod is the astral matrix on which the physical universe is built, and at the same time the mirror in which the universe is reflected. Energies from all the overlying sephira come to Yesod, and in it they are combined into a pattern according to which our world is built. Therefore, human intuition, dreams and visions are associated with Yesod. Planet – Moon.

The tenth Sephira, Malkuth, or "kingdom", the Sephira of material creation, finite form, is the universe that we know and exist in. Malkuth is the sephira of the Earth as a physical body, a planet, and the people living on it. Unlike other sephiroth, which are in a state of continuous activity and change, this sephira is relatively stable in essence and form. It absorbs all the energies of the Tree and transmits it into matter. Naturally, it symbolizes Earth.
