A few words about our God - Loki. Scandinavian gods What is known about the Scandinavian god Loki

Loki (Loft, Lodur, Hvedrung) is a god in the Germanic Scandinavian mythology. He is the son of the jotun giant Farbauti and the giantess Laufey. Loki himself comes from a family of jotun giants. In Scandinavian mythology, jotuns live in one of the nine worlds - Jotunheim, but after the death of her husband, Loki's mother took little Loki to Asgard (heavenly city, the abode of the gods). For an extraordinary mind and cunning, the gods allowed Loki to live with them.

Thanks to cunning, resourcefulness and other abilities of Loki, the Scandinavian gods received many treasures. For example, Thor's hammer Mjolnir was forged by the dwarf dwarves Brok and Sindri in a dispute with Loki about his skill. The same dwarf sons of Ivaldi, after meeting with Loki, created: the spear of Odin Gungnir, the ship of the aces Skidbladnir, the magical Golden ring Draupnir and the boar Gullinbursti, ridden by Freyr.

The origin of the name Loki has not yet been reliably clarified. There are two most popular versions. "Loki" from the word "logs", which translates as "fire", that is, Loki in ancient times was the god of fire. The second version compares Loki to the Old Norse word "lúka", which translates as "close, lock, finish." The second version may point to Loki as an underground god or god of death, or indicates his role in Ragnarok, the onset of which Loki hastened.

Loki is considered the father of several gods who have a special place in Scandinavian mythology. According to legend, Loki lived with the giantess Angrboda for three years. Angrboda gave birth to Loki three children: 1. the wolf Fenrir, who guards the underworld and, judging by the predictions of Ragnarok, at the end of time must kill Odin; 2. the serpent of Jörmungandr, which is also called the "World Serpent" or "Midgard Serpent". Jörmungandr grew so huge that he encircled the whole earth and grabbed his tail. In the final world battle, the son of Loki, the serpent Jörmungandr, must kill Thor; 3. Hel - the mistress of the dead, the queen of the world of the dead of Helheim. The second wife of Loki, who is considered his wife until Ragnarok, is Sigyn. From Sigyn, Loki has two children: Nari and Vali. Moreover, Loki himself was able to become pregnant - he endured and gave birth to an eight-legged foal Sleipnir, who later became Odin's horse.

German-Scandinavian mythology has undergone tremendous changes since the time of the Indo-Europeans. However, even today you can find similar features of the gods of the Scandinavians and Slavic gods. As for Loki, he corresponds to our Chernobog or the god of the underworld, and evidence for this will be given later. His children are very similar to our deities, although with some differences. For example, the serpent Jormungandr is similar to ours, the wolf Fenrir to ours, and Loki's daughter Hel is a copy of our goddess of the dead and the underworld (Mara, Marena). There are no direct references to the fact that Loki is the god of the underworld of the dead in Scandinavian legends. However, we can see this role of Loki in detail. For example, Loki is opposed to other gods. He is presented as a cunning and even insidious god. Moreover, Loki killed the god of spring, fertility and agriculture, Baldur. The last myth refers us to the original beliefs that existed in ancient times. In many beliefs, the god of the underworld of the dead corresponds to the winter time period and is opposed to the spring and summer gods. The change of summer and winter is often reflected in myths as a battle (often fatal) between the gods of winter and summer, or the gods of the underworld and the gods of the sky, or the abduction of one god by another. His involvement in the "dark" world is also evidenced by his offspring - the serpent Jörmungandr, who is opposed to the gods of Asgard, the wolf Fenrir, who is chained deep underground, and Hel, the goddess of the underworld.

It is also interesting that supreme god Odin and the god of cunning Loki are twin gods who swore an oath of allegiance to each other. This moment of German-Scandinavian mythology can be compared with the world pagan "rule" of the close relationship of two phenomena of the world - the dark side and the light, underground and heavenly, the connection of light and darkness, day and night.

The last part of the Scandinavian legends about Loki's life among the gods and his punishment speaks of his role in patronizing the underworld. After Loki insulted the gods and confessed his involvement in the death of the god Baldur, the angry aces chased him. He tried to hide in the waterfall of the Franangr fjord in the form of a salmon, but the gods still managed to notice and grab him. Together with him, the aces seized his two children, Vali and Narvi. Vali was turned into a wolf that tore Narvi apart. Loki himself was thrown into the bowels of the earth and chained to three stones with the intestines of Narvi. The goddess Skadi hung a snake over his head, from whose teeth poison continuously drips onto Loki's face. Faithful wife Sigyn is constantly next to Loki and, in order to alleviate her husband's suffering, holds a bowl over his head. When the cup overflows, she leaves to empty it, and then the poison again brings Loki torment. From the fact that Loki begins to rush about, according to the ideas of the ancient Scandinavians, earthquakes begin. This moment of Scandinavian mythology once again confirms the version that Loki is the god of the underworld. There are some similar plots in Slavic pagan beliefs, which are reflected in folk tales, for example, the moment when Marya Morevna keeps the god of the underworld Koshchei bound in a dark closet.

Judging by the predictions about Ragnarok, freed from the shackles of Loki and the guardian of the gods and the world tree, Heimdall will kill each other in the last battle on the battlefield of Vigrid.

The most controversial character in Scandinavian mythology. Great source of trouble in all nine worlds.

Hello dear reader. Good to see you here. This is not just a greeting. I really enjoy it when my posts are read. My name is Gavrilov Kirill . I am fond of history, mythology and culture of medieval Scandinavia. This is my "Northern Diary" -.

Today I will tell you about Loki Lauveyson. The magnificent illustrations of a talented artist from St. Petersburg will help me - Olga Levina. You can read an interview with Olga.

Briefly about Loki

  1. Loki is the god of fire and deceit. One of the main characters of Scandinavian mythology.
  2. He is considered the main villain, but in fact, Loki constantly balances between good and evil, doing both good and bad deeds.
  3. Loki is the most popular god. He is involved in almost all the myths of medieval Scandinavia.
  4. Loki's parents are the giant Farbauti and the goddess Laufey.
  5. Loki is not an adopted son, but his named brother. They are connected by the ancient rite of brotherhood.
  6. After numerous deeds in various myths and stories, Loki sets up the murder of Odin's son Baldr. As punishment for this murder, the gods chain Loki for life in a cave deep underground.
  7. When the end of the world begins - Loki is freed from the shackles and takes part in the last battle on the side of darkness.
  8. In this battle, Loki fights and both of them die from mortal wounds. Thus ends the story of the god of fire.

Loki and the eight-legged Sleipnir

Birth of the god Loki

One day, a red-haired boy was born to the giant Farbauti and the goddess Laufey, who was named Loki.

In addition to Loki, Laufey had two more sons. These were the giants Büleist and Helblindi. But nothing more is known about them.

After the birth of Loki, the giant Farbauti died and Laufey was left alone with a newborn child. Heartbroken mother threw Loki to Asgard, and she herself lost her life by throwing herself from a cliff onto the rocks.

Loki in Asgard

The people of Asgard accepted Loki and raised him as their own. Every year Loki became smarter and more insidious. The wise Odin knew that this power could be used for his own purposes and decided on a rite of twinning with Laufey's son in order to always feel a connection with Loki and easily follow him.

They stood in a circle from the poured earth, cut their hands and sealed the future brotherhood with blood. Since then, Scandinavians have been fraternizing with each other in this way.

The gods and the change of day and night

Children of Loki

At the beginning of time, Loki spent a lot of time in the land of giants with the giantess Angrboda. Loki and Angrboda are the parents of three monsters:

  1. - the goddess of death and the ruler of the world of the dead.
  2. - poisonous sea serpent.
  3. - a huge wolf and a killer of gods.

In addition to Angrboda, Loki had another woman named Sigyn. Sigyn gave birth to two sons from Loki:

  1. Narvi

Myths and other deeds of Loki

Most of the Scandinavian myths are associated with Loki. The god of deceit often disturbs the peace and balance between light and darkness. Loki causes trouble for other gods, but he himself helps to fix them. Briefly about the main stories:

  1. First people- under the name Lodur, together with Odin and Hoenir, Loki created the first people Ask and Embla from trees nailed to the shore.
  2. great builder- a nameless giant, under the guise of a bricklayer, builds a wall for aces on a dare. In order for the giant builder to miss the deadline and lose the argument, Loki turns into a beautiful mare and distracts the giant horse named Svadilfari, who helped to carry stones for the wall. The builder fails to meet the deadline and the gods triumph because they don't have to give away the sun and moon. And after that, Loki gives birth to an eight-legged stallion of the future horse for his twin brother Odin.
  3. Treasures of the gods- Loki steals from Thor's wife Siv, her gorgeous hair. Thor forces Loki to return them back, but this is impossible, because he stole them along with the roots. Therefore, Loki asks the underground dwarfs to make new golden hair for Siv and starts a big dispute between the dwarf blacksmiths for this. The brothers Sindri and Brokk argue against the sons of master Ivaldi, for the right to be called the best craftsmen in all nine worlds. As a result of the competition of masters, such famous treasures of the gods appear as: Thor's Hammer Mjolnir, Odin's Spear, Odin's Ring Draupnir, Skidbladnir's Ship, Sif's Golden Hair and Freyr's Golden Boar.
  4. apples of youth- one day, Loki is captured by the giant Tyatsi. And in exchange for his release, he lures the goddess Idunn, the keeper of the golden apples of youth, into a trap for the giant. Then, he himself saves her from the giant cave. The giant Tjazi turns into a huge eagle and pursues Loki and Idunn. But when he reaches Asgard, he burns in a trap prepared for him by the warned gods.
  5. Make Skadi laugh- to avenge his father Tjatsi, his daughter Skadi comes to Asgard. To avoid revenge, she asks for one of the gods as her husband, and then asks her to make her laugh. To make Skadi laugh, Loki ties the goat to his scrotum and plays tug-of-war with him, screaming and groaning wildly, and then generally falls to Skadi's knees. At this, she bursts into thunderous laughter and forgives her father's murder.
  6. Gold of Andvari- Loki accidentally kills the son of the sorcerer Hreidmar, who was walking in the guise of an otter. To pay for the murder, the grieving father asks for enough gold to cover the otter skin. Loki finds a mountain of golden treasures with the dwarf Andvari. And he takes them away to pay off Hreidmar. This myth is also called cursed gold, and many more events of Scandinavian mythology are associated with it.
  7. Freya's decoration Turning into a flea, Loki steals Freya Brisingamen's necklace. rushes after. And then, Heimdall and Loki fight each other in the form of seals, near the Singastein memorial stone.
  8. Freya's wedding- In order to get to Jotunheim and return the stolen hammer from Geirrod, the king of the giants, Loki dresses Thor as a bride for Geirrod, and himself turns into her servant.

Killing Baldur

And now, I'll tell you about the events of less fun. The handsome Baldr lived in the world - the god of spring and beauty. He was one of the sons of Odin and everyone loved him very much. But Balder himself was unhappy, at night he had nightmares about the death of his father, about a big wolf and a snake, about an army of giants and the death of worlds.

This worried Baldr's parents, Odin and Frigga. They wanted to save their son from these dark dreams but they didn't know how. It was necessary to ask advice from a knowledgeable person, and such a person was. Long ago, the omniscient seer Völva lived, but she only died many years ago, and her grave was at the very end of the world.

The Allfather decided that only the seer would tell the truth about disturbing dreams and set off on a long journey. Odin rode for a long time along snow-covered paths, overgrown caves and high mountains, for a long time he searched for a hidden grave among the ancient mounds, for a long time he returned the seer from the world of the dead.

From the dead seer Völva, Odin learned that a quick death awaits Balder, and his dreams are the future is not far off and nothing will help him - he has such a fate. The father of the gods returned home angry and with bad news. But Frigga, like any mother, did not want to put up with such a fate for her beloved son, she decided to save him from impending death, to protect him from the clawed hand of the goddess of death.

A loving mother went around all nine worlds and took an oath from all living beings, plants and animals, diseases and ailments. Everyone swore not to harm Balder, but only missed Frigga, a small sprig of mistletoe. What grows near Valhalla.

The gods had fun all day long. They threw and knocked on Baldr with all kinds of weapons. Spears broke, swords blunted, hammers and stones scattered - nothing could harm Baldr. Everyone rejoiced at such happiness and celebrated. Our beloved Balder is immortal.

Only two were not happy with what was happening: standing in the shadow of Loki and the blind brother of Baldr Hod. Loki did not like such injustice, because whoever is destined to die must die, one cannot deceive fate. Hod did not share the general joy, because he did not see what was happening and why everyone was so happy.

Loki went into the forest, cut off a young sprig of mistletoe and made an arrow out of it. Loki then put the arrow into the hands of the blind Hod and drew a longbow. So it's time for Hyod to have fun with the others, test his Brother's strength and laugh a lot. He sent Loki the hands of the blind god and told him when to shoot. Hod killed his brother, even though he did not want to, and Loki disappeared somewhere. A great tribulation began in Asgard.

Baldur's funeral

Everyone saw off the god of spring in last way. Both the gods and the beasts gathered to say goodbye to Balder. Even the giants of Jotunheim, having forgotten all the insults, came that day. All mourned for the fallen Balder. But Odin mourned most of all, for he knew that this was only the beginning.

The gods put the body of Balder in his tall and beautiful boat, and laid down the funeral pyre. Naina - the wife of Balder, did not survive the death of her husband, died of grief. She was placed next to her husband, along with a horse and valuables. The All-Father laid down his Draupnir ring for his beloved son. So Balder was carried to the kingdom of Hel and resigned to his death.

Only Frigga could not believe that she would never see her beloved son again. She began to look for a volunteer to go north to the kingdom of the goddess of death and pay a ransom for the release of Baldur.

Everyone stood silent, not one raised his eyes, except one. His name was Hermod, the brave son of Odin. The gods sighed heavily, gave him the eight-legged horse Sleipnir and escorted him on the road. Twice nine nights there was no news from Hermod. But with the first ray of a new day, he returned and told everything.

Hel agrees to let Balder go, but on the only condition - let every living being cry about the death of the god of spring. Then Frigga sent messengers to all corners of the nine worlds and everyone wept for the death of Balder, except for one being.

One of the messengers came across a sleeping giantess in a dark cave. He asked if she shared the great grief? “Neither the living nor the dead need your Baldr. Let him continue to sit with the goddess of death, ”the giantess answered. This giantess was the insidious Loki, he did not save Balder from death.

Loki's punishment

After Balder's funeral, the gods learned that it was Loki who arranged the fatal murder. The gods caught Loki along with his wife Sigyn, sons Narvi and Vali and locked them in an underground cave. The gods conceived a cruel punishment for the insidious Loki.

The wise Kvasir turned little Vali into a wolf and he bit his brother to death. From the guts of the torn Narvi, the gods made a rope and tied Loki to a large stone. Skadi, the daughter of the giant Thyazi, who died through the fault of Loki, hung a poisonous snake over the face of the deceiver so that burning poison would drip into his eyes. So the gods left Loki until the end of time.

Every day, poor Sigyn stood with a large bowl over her husband's head and collected drops of poison, and when she moved away to throw out the filled bowl, Loki screamed wildly and shuddered in pain, because poison poured into his eyes like fire. The Scandinavians believed that it was the wild cries of Loki that caused earthquakes.

The death of Balder, served as the beginning of a chain of events that lead the world of Scandinavian mythology to the final chapter - Ragnarok.

Ragnarok

Ragnarok - big and significant event. I call it the final chapter in Norse mythology. These are several important events, ending with the last battle on the great plain of Vigrid.

  • I talk about them in detail in this entry - - if you are interested, I invite you to read.

When the Death of the Gods begins, Loki will break his terrible bonds and stand at the head of a huge army of giants. Loki will gather his kindred aboard the giant Naglfar, a ship made of the nails of the dead, and lead the giants to the final battle to the plain of Vigridr.

This battle will be long and hard. Light and darkness will converge in it, Gods and monsters. Loki himself will fight with Heimdall the Stronghorn and both of them will die from the mortal wounds that they inflict on each other. Then, in the middle of the battle, the fire giant Surt will gather all his power and destroy all life. This is how the gods die. And so ends the story of Loki.

And that's all I have. Thank you very much for reading the post to the end. I hope I was able to tell you something new and interesting - it is very important for me. To always be aware of new entries and events, join our humble VKontakte community

Description of Loki

Loki Laufeyson is one of the gods of Asgard, a supervillain and a superhero in the Marvel comic book series. The character was created by Don Rico, Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby in 1949 and first appears in Venus #6. However, after his debut, Loki was black-boxed until 1962, when he resurfaced in Journey into Mystery #85. It was from the second appearance that the character began to gain well-deserved popularity and eventually became one of key figures in the Marvel Universe.

Since the introduction in 1962, Loki Laufeyson has been the adopted son of the god Odin (his real father is the king of the Frost Giants). Raised in the world of Asgard, Loki is an "unfortunate" representative of his race, because. usually all giants are much larger. However, he succeeded in other directions: he became the greatest magician in Asgard, possesses the abilities of telekinesis, shapeshifting, and possesses psionic skills. The “standard” Asgardian abilities are also available to him: super strength, super survivability, super endurance, etc. Loki is practically not subject to aging and his age is estimated at about several thousand years.

Throughout the development of the character, Loki acts as a negative and positive character. However, it is generally accepted that he is a supervillain, because. almost all the time he confronts the classic superheroes of Earth-616 and hatches plans to take over both Asgard and other worlds. During the course of his adventures, Loki fights most of the time with his adopted brother Loki and his associates. He endured many defeats and deaths. Once he was even cut off his head, but thanks to his abilities, he managed to survive. Separately, it is worth mentioning the reincarnation of Loki in other characters. In the course of some events, he performed a self-rebirth and became a woman. And after his "death" he acquired a new young body and a new personality.

Biography of Loki

Childhood

Loki Lafeison is the son of Queen Farbauti and King Laufey, head of the Frost Giants of Jotunheim. He was born small, to the shame of his parents, and grew up apart from the rest of the Giants.

Adoption

Magically, Loki-from-the-future returned to Jotunheim's past, outwitted Bor and turned him into snow. While Bor was melting, he asked his son Odin for help, but he ignored him. Then Loki, in the guise of the ghost of Bor, annoyed Odin.

Years passed, and Loki (as Bor) asked Odin to take the son of the fallen king into his family, whom he would kill; then Odin would no longer owe him anything. After that, he found the current Loki and explained to him how to become a god by deceiving Odin and Laufey.

Loki went to Laufey, told him where Odin would be in the upcoming battle and began to incite the king to attack him. When Loki hinted to Laufey that he was a coward, his father hit him, but decided to kill the Allfather.
Odin slew Laufey and left him for dead. Loki rushed to the battlefield, feigning grief and anger, but only so that Odin saw his strength and agreed to adopt him. Driven by considerations of honor, repentance and duty, Odin adopted the boy and began to raise him on a par with his own son Thor, and Loki from the future celebrated the death of Laufey, who treated him rudely.

Indignation

As a child, then as a teenager, Loki became embittered at how differently the people of Asgard treated him and Thor. The Asgardians valued strength, stamina and bravery in battle above all else, which means they preferred Thor. Loki's talents lay in other areas, mainly in witchcraft. Having a natural inclination to command the mighty magical powers, he planned with their help to destroy Thor and become the most powerful being in Asgard.

god of deceit

When Loki matured, his penchant for deceit was fully developed, and he called himself "the god of deceit." However, instead of harmlessly playing tricks on others, he did increasingly evil deeds. This was his desire for power and revenge. Over time, he changed from being a playful, mischievous trickster to that of a "god of evil".

For centuries, Loki has seized every opportunity to take over Asgard and kill Thor.

Age of Thunder

Asgard is attacked by the Frost Giants. All the gods fought as if Asgard was about to end. At the end of the battle, only Thor stood firm, having won victory in the battle for Asgard with his lightning. Thor killed the mighty giant, and as he fell, he destroyed the gigantic wall of Asgard, which had stood since time immemorial. The wall has fallen, but spring has come again. Yggdrasil again grew golden apples, which were enjoyed by the inhabitants of Asgard, but only the Enchantress could collect them.

All the gods were filled with wisdom and youth when these apples were in their every dish; all but the mighty Thor. Heimdall noticed a man walking towards Asgard. It was the mason who offered Odin to rebuild the great wall that had been destroyed in the war against the Frost Giants. He said he could handle it in a year if he got something in return.

He wanted neither wealth nor power, only the Enchantress herself. Loki and Odin conferred and decided to accept his offer on one condition: he would be given six months, not a whole year. All the gods agreed that it was beyond the power of man. However, he built the wall so quickly that he could finish it even before six months had passed.

This greatly angered Odin, and he ordered Loki to solve this problem, otherwise he would be forever chained to a rock. Loki turned into a mare to distract the stallion that belonged to the mason. All night Loki distracted this horse, and in the morning the man could not complete the wall. Odin told him that he had failed, and the mason knew that Loki was harassing his stallion, and it was his fault that he had failed.

The man said that he would kill all the gods, and showed his true appearance. In fact, it was a Frost Giant, capable of shapeshifting, ready to curse the inhabitants of Asgard. While he fought with Loki and Odin, Thor returned from his wanderings and killed the Giant by throwing Mjolnir at him. He then ordered Loki to clean up the mess he had made. Thor walked through Asgard carrying the heads of several Frost Giants.

Loki was later expelled from Asgard for another attempt at intrigue. He wandered through Asgard without food, wherever his eyes looked. It seemed as if he had been walking through the snow for thousands of years. Once an eagle flew to him and began to question him. The bird offered Loki a deal: she would get him food if he delivered the desired Enchantress to him. Loki talked to the Enchantress and deceived her, saying that he had found golden apples that she could pick. They climbed to the top of a snow-covered mountain, where the Frost Giant (who was the eagle) was waiting for them. He took the Enchantress with him to become his queen. The inhabitants of Asgard began to starve, because there was no one else to collect golden apples from the tree. Odin found out that Loki was to blame, and forced him to go save the Enchantress from the Frost Giant. Loki returned to the Giant's lair, where he found the bound Enchantress. The Ice Giant was asleep at this time. They crept outside, but the Giant woke up and found it missing. He chased the Asgardians and captured them. But then Thor flew in and killed the Frost Giant. The Enchantress returned to Asgard and the gods were able to feast again.

20th century

At some point, Loki aroused the wrath of the ruler of Olympus, Zeus, and he expelled him to Hades, replacing Pluto, who ruled there. At this time, Loki gave birth to a child, whom he named the Son of Satan: during this period, he himself sometimes called himself Satan.

After some time, Loki was inflamed with passion for the Olympic goddess of love Aphrodite, who in 1949 acted on Earth under the name of Venus. While Venus was on Earth, Loki took advantage of this to leave the exile and sow evil on the planet. He appeared at the Mardi Gras parade that Venus attended because she worked for Beauty Magazine. This was a ploy to lure Venus to Hades, where Loki took her prisoner. He then took over the body of Venus' employer and her mortal lover, Whitney Hammond, to spread evil throughout the world. Venus was able to escape, sought out Loki and promised to become his queen in Hades if he left Earth. Loki agreed, but before he could bind Venus with an oath, Zeus (then named Jupiter) appeared and rewarded Venus for her sacrifice. Loki was banished back to Hades and Venus was able to return to Earth. Shortly after this defeat, Loki plotted to invade Olympus, where the gods were busy judging Venus. The court was started by the daughter of Jupiter, Joya, who considered that Venus was neglecting divine duties. When Loki arrived with the army on Olympus, Joya realized her mistake, took the form of Venus and promised to go to Hades with Loki if he led the army away. Loki agreed and ordered the army to retreat. Apparently, over time, he figured out this trick, as he later returned with threats to Venus. What happened to Joey is unknown.

In 1950, Apollo made a deal with the demon Zoroba, which would allow him to move into his body. The demon wanted to win the love of Venus on Earth. In Apollo's body, Zoroba took the chance to force Jupiter to allow Loki to return from exile and settle on Olympus. Jupiter gave Loki a brief audience while he thought about it, but Venus prevented the plan from happening, and Loki and Zoroba were banished back to Hades. Taking the name of Satan for a short time, Loki allowed his already adult son (called the Son of Satan) to go to Earth and force Venus to love him. Unfortunately for Loki's offspring, Venus defeated him and left him to orbit the Earth forever.

In 1951, Loki bewitched the Far Eastern state of Cassarobia, so that no gods could use their powers in it. His motives other than to make the gods uncomfortable are unknown. However, shortly after this, Venus found herself a prisoner of the Sultan of Cassarobia, who wanted to make her his new wife. Jupiter played on Loki's passion for Venus and convinced him to break the spell when Venus' life was threatened. Together with his half-brother Thor, Loki held back the Sultan's army until Venus and the people of Cassarobia overthrew him.

Inexplicably, Loki was released from his imprisonment in Hades and returned to Asgard.

At some point, Odin, who endured Loki's tricks for a long time, sent Thor to catch him, and with the help of magic imprisoned him in a tree in Asgard. Odin declared that only then would Loki be free when someone shed a tear for him.

Nowadays

Already in our time, Loki was able to free himself when, with an effort of will, he dropped a leaf from a tree that landed in Heimdall's eye, which caused him to cry. Loki's first thought upon being freed was to find Thor; he felt that his brother was on Earth. Wandering the Earth in the form of a man, Loki realized that the search for him was unsuccessful, so he put illusions on people in order to lure Thor out. When the illusions were dispelled, Loki appeared and challenged Thor to a mid-air fight. During the fight, Loki was able to hypnotize Thor and attempted to take over Mjolnir, forcing Thor to put down his hammer. Distracted by the people trying to pick up his hammer, Thor turned back into Don Blake and snapped out of his trance. Taking possession of the hammer again, Thor chased Loki through the city. He tried to escape on a winged horse, but Thor was able to stop him and return him to Asgard.

Odin tried to permanently ban Loki from leaving Asgard, but then Loki found out that without Mjolnir, Thor turns into Don Blake, and made his way past Heimdall, turning into a snake. Back on Earth, he hypnotized Jane Foster and challenged Thor to a fight in New York's Central Park. As Loki predicted, Jane appeared during the duel. Then he turned the tree into a tiger, and Thor had to choose between the hammer and saving Jane. Thor chose to save her, and Loki covered the hammer with a magical force field so that Don Blake could not transform back into Thor. Loki traveled across America, using magic to trick and deceive, until Thor challenged him to a fight. Loki returned to the hammer and found that Thor was waiting there. Loki removed the force field and Don Blake jumped out from behind the dummy and grabbed the hammer before Loki could do anything. Loki was captured and returned to Asgard. Unable to leave, Loki found a fairground psychic named Sandu, enhanced his natural ability to read minds and endowed him with telepathy, telekinesis, and the ability to teleport. Thus armed, Sandu began to rob banks, and finally put forward an ultimatum to the heads of the world: recognize him as the ruler of the Earth. When Thor attacked him, Sandu dropped the UN building on the enemy, filling Thor with rubble. Odin sent a Valkyrie with Megingjord, the Belt of Power, to help Thor. Thor again grappled with Sandu, but when the psychic tried to take possession of Mjolnir, there was a "short circuit" of his powers, and he was quickly captured.

Odin again sent Loki into captivity and chained him to a rock with indestructible chains of Uru. Loki was able to free himself by enchanting the chains so that Mjolnir would be attracted to them and shatter because they were made of the same material. Having received his freedom, he went to kill Thor, whom at that time Odin had summoned to Asgard in search of the missing hammer. While Thor was busy searching, Loki continued to try to kill him, but Thor escaped death every time, creating hammers from wood and stone to replace Mjolnir. One such hammer happened to be made of Uru, and was also attracted to the chains. Finding his hammer and broken chains, Thor understood everything, and the inhabitants of Asgard caught Loki.

Once again sent to prison by Odin, Loki was again chained to a cliff by Uru. This time he was freed by Thor, whom he tricked into turning against humanity. There are two versions of what happened. In the original, Loki magically deflected the flight of Mjolnir, returning to Thor, so that the hammer hit him on the head, and Thor inexplicably became evil. Together with Loki they attacked different places Worldwide. One and some other gods of Asgard, in the guise of members of the UN, lured Thor and Loki into the UN building to sign a peace agreement on surrender. There, Odin hit Thor on the head, restoring his normal personality. Thor defeated Loki and turned him over to his father. In this version, Odin magically repaired all the damage done by Thor and erased everyone's memory of his rampage. According to another version, Loki appeared in Donald Blake's office and magically suppressed Blake's mind when he transformed into Thor. Then Loki flattered himself to the arrogant and unburdened morality Thor, convincing him that the Earth should know the wrath of the gods. Thor declared war on the entire planet. When Thor and Loki destroyed many places on Earth, they returned to New York, where they killed the Fantastic Four and. Inside Thor's mind, Donald Blake's personality struggled in vain to free itself. Jane Foster lashed out at Thor with reproaches, but Loki cut her off with a remark that Don was finally able to free himself from his father's influence. Upon learning of this, Odin appeared to Thor and said that Blake was only an extension of Thor. When Blake realized that he was worthy of being Thor, their personalities merged. When his humanity was restored, Thor pounced on Loki, defeated him in battle and banished him to Asgard. Asking Odin to repair the damage done, Thor said that he would sacrifice his divinity for this. Odin was so impressed by this that he repaired all the damage, resurrected the dead, and erased all memory of Thor's war against humanity. Thor not only retained his powers, but was finally allowed back into the halls of Asgard.

Loki's intrigue eventually brought together some of Earth's superhuman heroes. After manipulating the Hulk (who was his last mortal weapon against Thor) into wreaking havoc, Loki's designs led to the creation of the Avengers.

While imprisoned in Asgard, Loki pulled the Lava Man to the surface and tricked him into attacking Thor and the world on the surface of the Earth. However, the Lava Man was defeated and returned to Subterranea.

When Thor decided to marry Jane Foster, Odin took away half of his strength and forbade him to leave Asgard. Wanting to take advantage of this, Loki restored the memory of Zarrko, the Man from the Future, who immediately traveled to the past to fight Thor. He was defeated, gave up and agreed to return with Zarrko to the 23rd century as his slave. Thor helped Zarrko seize power in the 23rd century, but was able to free himself and return to his own time.

Wanting to increase Odin's rejection of Thor's feelings for the human woman Jane Foster, Loki had several intrigues involving her and willingly helped to destroy their relationship. For example, Loki is known to have urged the Enchantress to go to Earth and seduce Thor. When Odin went to personally put an end to this affair, Loki tried to seize the throne by releasing the giant Skagg and the demon Surtur on Earth in the hope that they would defeat the Asgardians. Loki's plan failed, and as punishment he was given into the service of the trolls.

Among the "fruits" of Loki's other intrigues on Earth was the human criminal Karl "Crusher" Creel, who was turned into a superhuman Absorber by witchcraft and became one of the most stubborn mortal enemies of the God of Thunder. Around this time, Loki had a hand in awakening the Destroyer. He even tried to play off Odin and Thor in order to steal the enchanted hammer Mjolnir.

Returning to Asgard, Loki was again condemned to punishment and exile. However, despite his hatred of Thor and Odin, he helped defend Asgard from Surtur and his Fire Demons - out of sheer selfishness, as he wanted to rule everything that Surtur would destroy.

Ragnarok

It was prophesied that Loki would bring Asgard's enemies into the "Eternal Realm" and help them destroy it in a final battle known as Ragnarok, sometimes also referred to as "The Twilight of the Gods".

Loki fulfilled the prophecy and pushed the enemies of Asgard with its inhabitants. In this battle, all its participants fell, and it was discovered that the series of births, lives and deaths of the Asgardians constitutes a repeating cycle, which is controlled by beings called "Those who watch from the shadows." Thor was able to break this endless cycle. All the inhabitants of Asgard fell in this last Ragnarok, except for Thor, who disappeared into a deep sleep. However, this time, Those Who Watch from the Shadows shared their fate and could no longer revive them.

Loki woman

When Thor returned, he began to look for other inhabitants of Asgard. Finding Heimdall and the Warriors Three, he increased his efforts. Heimdall directed him to the southwest, where dozens of people were held captive by the Destroyer. Loki gathered all his former allies in Asgard, Thor fell into a trap, and they all regained their former strength. Loki, in the course of these adventures, carried out self-rebirth and became a woman. She announced that now that Ragnarok had taken place, she had no more plans. Time will tell if her desire for power has really dried up.

After telling Baldur that he would never lie again, Loki continued to gain the trust of the Asgardians, revealing that he was also the son of Odin, like Thor. Balder did not believe this at first, but when Thor confirmed these words, he began to count Loki trustworthy. During the Skrull invasion, he was able to convince a mob of Asgardians that Beta Ray Bill was a Skrull in disguise.

Dark Rule

Loki joined the Conspirators.

He traveled back in time to orchestrate the death of Bor, Odin's father and first king of Asgard, in a battle against the Frost Giants and secure his own destiny.

In the present, Loki revived Bor in New York, but he bewitched him so that he considered everyone he saw an enemy and attacked them. Bor was even more upset that since his son could not resurrect him, it means that he fell in battle. When Thor arrived at the place, who was under the spell of Loki, Bor perceived him as a monster. Sensing the strength of Odin in what he considered a monster, Bor attacked Thor, seeking to avenge his son. While Thor and Bor fought, Loki informed Baldr about Bor, and together they rushed to New York so that Thor would not kill Bor (Thor had not met his grandfather before and did not know who he was). They arrived too late: Thor was forced to kill Bor in fear that the entire planet would be destroyed in their battle. Loki then reminded Baldur that the resurrected Bor was technically the king of Asgard when Thor killed him, and that the punishment for killing the king was exile. Baldr was forced to agree. After the expulsion of Thor, Loki addressed the outraged Asgardians with a speech and arranged so that all of them (but not Asgard itself) moved to Latveria at the invitation.

Loki and Baldr attended a dinner hosted by Doctor Doom to celebrate the settlement of the Asgardians in Latveria. She was taken aback by Balder's insistence that since they had left Asgard, Thor should be allowed to join them. Loki managed to calm Baldur before he offended Doom too much. She later appeared to Blake and Thor, revealing that she would soon return to male form, and that he "just now" realized that his body was meant for Sif. Loki explained that after Ragnarok, when the Asgardians fell into the bodies of people, the soul of Sif landed in the body of the dying. When Thor called for the Asgardians to gather, Sif's body was too weak to hear him. When Thor summoned all the inhabitants of Asgard, Sif's body was created, but the soul could not settle in it, so the body went looking for a disembodied soul and stumbled upon Loki. Loki stated that turning from a woman to a man would most likely kill Sif's body and insisted that Blake and Thor find her and say goodbye.

After the Hood lost his powers from Doctor Strange, Brother Voodoo, and Son of Satan, Loki offered him a second chance. She gave him the Norn Stones, Asgardian artifacts she had used before, to help him regain his powers.

Mighty Avengers

Loki assumed the astral form of the Scarlet Witch and hired the Avengers to fight the Elder God Chthon. The Avengers, unaware of Loki's ploy, followed the instructions of this "pseudo-Wanda". Its purpose was to unbalance Norman Osborn. Loki hoped to "open cracks in Osborn's armor" and gradually "widen" them with the Mighty Avengers. Pietro Maximoff, although he wanted to meet and talk with his sister, joined the Mighty Avengers after he went around the world in search of her.

However, Loki began to notice that Pietro and Cassie were beginning to pose a threat to his plans, since they sincerely considered her Wanda. The latter also wanted to avenge the death of her father. She attempted to eliminate Pietro by cutting off communications when he and the U.S. Agent from Tibet signaled for help, hoping they would die. Cassie caught her doing this and tried to warn the others, but Loki used a spell to stop her from speaking badly of "Wanda". She then appeared to Henry Pym, speaking on behalf of the Wasp to convince him to expel Cassie from the team. Pym sought to give everyone a second chance after their escape from the Fantastic Four.

Loki soon found himself fed up with Cassie when she tricked the Young Avengers into summoning "Scarlet Witch" to the Avengers Mansion using Wiccan magic; Loki in his guise appeared there. However, Clint Barton also turned out to be cunning, and after kissing Loki, he concluded that she was not Wanda. Wiccan cast a spell to dispel Loki's deception and force her to create barriers to prevent her from being summoned again, which required removing the spell from Cassie.

Death

Loki tricked Norman Osborn into leading his Avengers and M.O.L.O.T. to attack Asgard to return it to its rightful place in the Nine Realms. However, he underestimated the destructive power of the Sentinel, who succumbed to the whispers of his other personality, Gloom. When he led the real Avengers to the defense of Asgard, Osborn ordered the Gloom to strike with all his might, and Asgard was destroyed. Seeing what his plan led to, Loki prayed to Odin for help, used the Norn Stones to help the Avengers against the Gloom and was killed by him in front of the stricken Thor. "I'm sorry brother" were his last words.

Before his death, Loki planned to break free from the chains of fate and be reborn as a brand new Loki Child. However, having died at the hands of the Darkness, he died forever, and no new Loki will become the original one.

Loki's abilities

Despite being a Frost Giant, Loki has the properties of Asgardians.

Superhuman strength: Loki without any adaptations, simply due to biology, has superhuman strength that far exceeds that of the average Asgardian male. Its strength is enough to lift up to 50 tons. Perhaps he can temporarily increase it even more with mystical charms. Like Thor, he was recently credited with a higher "innate" power than originally. One day he destroyed large building with one blow.

Superhuman body tissue density: Like all Asgardians, Loki's body tissue density is about three times higher than that of humans. Although he appears to be small, due to his denser body, he weighs several hundred pounds more than his appearance suggests. This increased density also gives him some superhuman strength.

Superhuman Vitality: Loki's body tissues have superhuman strength, about the same as that of an average Asgardian male. However, sometimes Loki, thanks to magic, could withstand such injuries that would be fatal for another Asgardian. It can withstand large-caliber bullets, falls from great heights, powerful impacts, extreme heat and extreme cold, and powerful pulses of energy without damage. In the past, he has proven durable enough to take energy blasts from the Mandarin Rings and several hits from Spider-Man without batting an eyelid.

Accelerated regeneration: Like all Asgardians, Loki, despite inhuman vitality (by human standards), can still be injured. However, like all Asgardians, his metabolism allows him to repair damaged tissue much faster and to a greater extent than ordinary people. Magical energies have so permeated his body that he can put back several lost limbs, and even when he was a man - at least once put a severed head back in place.

Superhuman Stamina: Frost Giant physiology gives Loki superhuman stamina in almost everything. He can physically exhaust himself as much as possible for about a day, and only then will fatigue begin to affect him. Loki can also increase his stamina through magic, as well as his physical strength and vitality.

Superhuman longevity: Like all Asgardians, Loki ages much more slowly than humans. However, he is not completely immune to aging (unlike members of other pantheons, such as the Olympians, who completely stop aging at a certain point). Although he was recently "reborn", he retained the memory of past life. His real age is several millennia, but he looks just as strong as a young Asgardian male in his prime. Loki is immune to all known earthly diseases and infections.

Witchcraft: Loki is able to generate and direct a huge number of magical effects for all sorts of purposes; for example, strengthen your body (speed, strength, endurance), but only temporarily. In terms of magical abilities, he is equal to Karnilla, the most skilled sorceress in the Asgardian dimension. Loki owns telekinesis and is able to influence the movement of objects and people with the help of his mind; this force proved to be destructive and chaotic. He has been known to fire powerful impact beams, create high-strength force fields, imbue living beings or inanimate objects with superhuman properties, and teleport himself or others to other dimensions. He can animate inanimate objects or mystically give objects or creatures specific powers (temporarily). For example, he increased the power of the human criminals Kobra and Sandu. This magic only works while he is channeling the corresponding spell. Loki once cursed Deadpool, giving him the indestructible face of Tom Cruise. It survived a train ride and direct contact with a nuclear rod without getting the slightest scratch. He also once magically directed the Invisible Woman's psionic shields against her. The Silver Surfer, at a long-standing meeting, assessed Loki's strength as sufficient to mow down the entire population of the planet.

Psionics: Loki demonstrated powerful psionic abilities, the limit of which is unknown. He can telepathically transmit thoughts over vast distances and is a powerful hypnotist. He is able to communicate telepathically with living beings, and this ability is enhanced with the beings who serve him.

Werewolves: like some other gods and goddesses, Loki has developed ability change shape. He can take on almost any form, be it animals, other humanoids, or even inanimate objects. It has been suggested that his current form is just a disguise that Loki chose to remain in. Despite this, Loki remarked to himself (when trying to escape Dormammu's mystical cage) that this was his most "soul-consuming" power. Apparently, this means that she demands more than others of him. magical abilities. He turned into animals - a snake, an eagle, a mouse and a bee, and in these forms he had all their natural properties. While Loki can assume the form of another god, giant, or human, he does not necessarily have the special bodily or mental powers of the creature he imitates. In addition, Loki can magically change the appearance of foreign objects and substances. For example, he turned clouds into dragons, and cars into ice cream.

genius intellect: Loki has a genius intellect and has extensive knowledge of the mystical arts. He is extremely skilled and resourceful, an expert in military strategy, and a very skilled and charming manipulator. The latter can be judged by the ease with which Loki managed to regain the trust of the Asgardians many times after all the crimes he had committed.

All-Speech: Thanks to her, Loki can communicate in all the languages of the Nine Realms, Earth and various alien races.

Experienced fighter: In battle, Loki is a truly formidable opponent, especially if armed with a sword or attacking with energy. He fought on a par with Thor many times, and once literally knocked out of Disir all thoughts of defiance.

Weaknesses of Loki

limited magic: it is believed that the forces of Loki in Midgard are at least a little, but weaker than in Asgard, because he was not born from Gaia. Even Odin's magic on Earth was weakening. Also, although Loki has some psychic abilities similar to psionics, Loki cannot directly read the minds of other beings or control their actions.

superiority/inferiority complex: Loki's biggest flaw was his ambition. A passionate hatred for Thor, a lust for power and a tendency to make enemies with his heinous deeds greatly interfere with the execution of his plans. In addition, as Apocalypse noted, Loki has a poor understanding of human nature, which is why he seriously underestimates his mortal opponents (earthlings) and suffers humiliating defeats.

Loki's equipment

Loki occasionally uses mystical items of power such as Norn Stones or rare Asgardian herbs to enhance his own magical abilities. These items or substances are usually used to amplify his own powers, or to perform a permanent mystical transformation, similar to the one that gave the Devourer his powers. One day, Loki used the mystical sword Surtur and various Asgardian equipment to turn Thor into a frog, while Loki was in Asgard and Thor was on Earth. When the sword-powered generator was destroyed, Thor returned to normal.

Armament: A magical sword known in Norse mythology as Lavatein, which means "wounding wand."

It has been argued that since Loki looks like a god in appearance, and does not have giant features, then his mother was probably a goddess, not a giantess.

The character Loki, based on the image of the traditional God of Deception, appeared in a number of Golden Era comics, unrelated to storyline Torah. Loki's first appearance in Venus #6 (1949) seems to have received a retcon in Journey Into Mystery #85 (1962). In Norse mythology, Loki looks a bit like his comic book appearance, except that in the myths he wears a black beard.

Although Loki is one of the most powerful sorcerers in the Marvel Universe, in the original myths, his only permanent abilities were shapeshifting (and even then, this may not be an innate property, since some myths explicitly say that he used the skin of an animal to change appearance), handling fire and creating illusions. Indeed, in Lokasenna, Loki openly ridiculed Odin for using magic: in the culture of the ancient Scandinavians, male magicians were considered Ergi, non-male.

In Scandinavian mythology, Loki's father is called Farbauti, and his mother is Lafeya.

In Norse mythology, Loki was not an outright villain, unlike in the Marvel Universe.

In contact with

God Loki, the most cunning liar, the god of mischief and deceit, the most charming of all the gods in Norse mythology. He is cunning and cunning, he had the rarest quality for a mythological character - a change in character. Once, at the dawn of time, he helped in the creation of the world and countless times helped other gods. Later, his pranks became more malevolent, such as when he cut off the hair of the goddess Siv. And then anger finally took possession of him, which manifested itself, for example, in the murder of Baldur, which Loki himself arranged.

Loki was married three times. His first wife's name was Glut, and she bore him two children, Einmuria and Eise; all three names are associated with fire and its warmth, because Loki was also considered the god of the hearth, tranquility and relaxation, which is why the peasants revered him as the greatest of the gods. The children from his second marriage were less likeable. The giantess Angbroda bore Loki three children. The first daughter is Hel, goddess of death; one son is Jörmungandr, the World Serpent, and the other is Fenrir, a dire wolf that threatened the very existence of the gods. The third wife of Loki was the beautiful Sigyn. Her children were named Narvi and Vali.

Children of Loki and Angrbod: Hel, Jörmungandr and Fenrir

There are many more stories about the Scandinavian god Loki than about other gods. He could be kind, helped many, entertained them. One day, the giantess Skadi ascended to Asgard to avenge the murder of her father Thiassi. Loki began to distract her, telling various obscene stories, and Skadi changed her anger to mercy.

Sometimes Loki was extremely cruel. One day, while walking with Odin and Hoenir along the river bank, Loki noticed an otter that was about to eat a salmon. God threw a stone at her and killed her. But it was no ordinary otter, but Otter, one of the sons of the troll king Hreidmar. Thus began the infamous story of Andvari's gold and the ruin of Hreidmar's family.

As you know, the children of Loki and the giantess Angrboda were Hel, Jörmungandr and Fenrir. It was a marriage forbidden by the gods, in a cave, but they grew so fast that Odin knew of their existence. He ordered Loki to destroy them before they grew large enough to become a threat to the entire world. One cast Hel into Niflheim, and in this gloomy realm she became the goddess of death. He threw the Serpent Jörmungandr into the deep sea, and so the World Serpent appeared, which, lying in the middle of the sea, girded the seabed and biting its own tail.

The third son of Loki and the giantess Angrboda, the wolf Fenrir. One brought him in in order to cultivate kindness in him. But Fenrir was rapidly growing in size, and at the same time, ferocity grew in him. Then the gods decided to make the strongest chain and bind him so that he could no longer threaten them. After Fenrir broke the two chains, the dwarves wove the thinnest fetters - Gleipnir. Fenrir allowed her strength to be tested on himself, but only on the condition that one of the gods put his hand in his mouth as a guarantee that no magic would be used against him. None of the gods dared. Tyr put his right hand into the mouth of the wolf and immediately lost it. Then the wolf was put in the underworld, where he howled wildly. To silence him, the aces thrust a sword into his mouth: the hilt rested under the tongue, and the tip against the palate, and blood flowed from his throat in a huge river.

The gods of Scandinavian myths captivate Loki

Loki's pranks became more and more vicious. With his love of lies and other people's secrets, he constantly quarreled with the gods with each other. One of the most disgusting tricks he did was to cut off Sif's magnificent golden hair. As a result of this and his subsequent bet with Brokk and Sindri, Loki was in pain because his lips had been stitched together.

Soon Loki abandoned petty villainy and he was seized by a vengeful passion for destruction. He began with Balder, and then appeared to the gods for a farewell dinner and insulted them in the most caustic terms. The gods considered that enough was enough for them, and decided to bind the villain. Loki could shape-shift and turned into a fish. The gods of Scandinavian myths: , and Kvasir still managed to catch him. They led him to a deep cave, forced Loki's son Vali to turn into a wolf and tear his brother Narvi's throat. The aces took out his intestines and tied Loki to three huge stones. The fetters have turned to iron. The giantess Skadi took a poisonous snake and hung it over Loki's head so that the poison dripped onto his face until the end of days. Each drop of poison caused unbearable pain to the overthrown god. During the great battle of the hour, the gods will have to regret very much that they treated Loki so cruelly.

German-Scandinavian mythology has given us a lot of myths and legends, where incredible characters with a truly interesting story are hidden. One of these characters is Loki, otherwise his name sounds Lodur - the son of the etun Farbauti and Laufey, who is mentioned in two ways - as an Asgardian and as a giant, that is, it is not known exactly who she was in mythology. Loki is the god of cunning and deceit, who, although he came from Yotun - the world of ice giants -, nevertheless remained in Asgard - the abode of the gods, thanks to his cunning and intelligence.

In mythology, Loki is definitely not the son of Odin, but his brother, whom Odin, for a moment, put in the same place with himself. So to say that Loki is some kind of frail god who knows nothing but jokes and intrigues is nonsense.

Loki has several children. His first children from the giantess Angrboda are the terrible wolf Fernir, the giant serpent Jörmungandr and the goddess realms of the dead- Helheim, - Hel.

Fenrir - the god of horror, lived at one time in Asgard, until he became so huge and scary that only one person could feed him. The Asgardians decided to shackle him in chains, but he tore each of them. Only later did they create the Gleipnir chain from the noise of cat steps, a woman's beard, mountain roots, fish breath and bird saliva, which could hold it. The Asgardians chained him and stuck a sword between his mouth. During the time of Ragnarok - the death of the gods - he was freed, but was killed. But in the film, everything is much different, but we will consider this a little lower.

Hel - but in the movie everyone calls her Hela, and she's definitely not his daughter. Hel is the goddess of the kingdom of the dead Helheim, where she was exiled by Odin. She ruled there for a long time, but at the beginning of Ragnarok she led an army of the dead to storm Asgard.

The third child of Loki is the giant serpent Jörmungandr. We know him as a sea or Midgard serpent, which Odin threw to the bottom of the oceans, and Jörmungandr girded the whole earth around and grabbed his tail with his teeth. Thor will kill him during Ragnarök, but, unfortunately, Jörmungadn will take him with him, poisoning him with his own poison.

His next wife is Sigyn, the goddess of Asgard. She was his faithful wife and gave birth to two children - Narvi and Vali. But Vali is turned into a wolf, who tears apart his brother Narvi and with his guts the gods of Asgard tie Loki to a rock, where the goddess Skadi hung a snake over Loki, dripping poison on his face. Sigyn, as a loving and faithful wife, holds the cup over his face, preventing the poison from getting on him, but when she needs to empty the vessel, the poison falling on Loki makes him suffer from violent pain and, according to the legend, this is what causes earthquakes in Midgard. All this happens due to the fact that at the feast of the giant Aegir, Loki admits that he is guilty of the death of Baldar, the god of spring and light. And it is for this that the angry Asgardians punish the trickster.

He also helped the Asgardians avoid the cost of building the walls of Asgard. The Builder Giant demands the goddess Freya as payment, the Gods agree. But when it's time to pay, they force Loki to come up with a plan to avoid paying his bills. So Loki turns into a mare and seduces the builder's faithful assistant - the horse Svadilfari. From which he later bore the eight-legged stallion Sleipnir.

The story of Loki from mythology is not what people are used to seeing and reading, and in itself it is a little rude and sometimes unpleasant, I guess. However, it is important to know this so as not to lose face in front of those who understand this.

Loki Laufeyson in modern cinema.

In the movies, everything looks more benign, and almost everyone knows the story about Thor's stepbrother - Loki.

By the way, to the question: "How old is Loki?" We can say that about 1200, plus or minus a couple of centuries. Since we know that Thor is 1500, but we also know that Loki is younger than Thor, so similar numbers come up from here.

Marvel's Loki is the son of the ice giant Laufey, whom he abandoned after the battle with Asami. One, who found Loki, took him to himself and raised him as his own son, however, he tried to shove something from the accounts of the heir to the throne, or vice versa.

All childhood, and later life, Loki spent lost in jealousy of his own brother, whom his father, from Loki's thoughts, loved and respected more. That is why he disrupts Thor's coronation, helping the frost giants get into Asgard and the vault in order to take the Chest of Eternal Winters. In the first films, Thor was a little stupid and stubborn and therefore visited Jotunheim in a very bad way. There, during the battle with the giants, Loki sees that his skin reacted differently to the touch of the giant - this was the beginning of his doubts about the origin. Odin saves them from the lands of Jotunheim, who then sends Thor and his hammer into exile. After Loki learns that he is not the son of Odin, but the full king of Jotunheim.

During almost all films, Loki acts according to the scheme: "get into trust - betray" and so on repeat. However, in the movie "Thor: Ragnarok" Thor is no longer fooled and he knows in advance about all the tricks of his half-brother. Unfortunately, in the latest film "Avengers: Infinity War" we see how Loki dies - for the umpteenth time -, but all the fans - including myself - are sure that Loki will return and it's not so easy to kill the mad Titan god of deceit and cunning.

For this role, a wonderful, in my opinion, immodest opinion, actor, Tom Hiddleston, was selected. He fits perfectly into the role of the cunning and clever god of deceit. And it seems to me that his appearance is more canonical than in the description of mythology. Frankly, I never imagined Loki as red, as he is shown to us in mythology, but with black hair, it’s quite such a Loki.
