Four rak'ahs of fard night prayer

In the night prayer in the 3rd and 4th rak'ah after Surah al-Fatiha, a short surah or verse is not read. For men and those who have become imams in prayer, they need to read Surah al-Fatihah in the first two rakats and short surah read aloud, as well as takbirs "Allahu Akbar", some dhikrs are spoken out loud.

First rak'ah

how many rakats are in each prayer

  1. Tell me, before lunchtime prayer?
  2. Performing OBLIGATORY SAYERS

    1. Morning prayer:

Morning prayer consists of two rak'ahs + 2 synna, which are performed equally as follows:
You must raise your hands to shoulder level with the words Allahu Akbar. This is called takbira-l-ihram and is performed at the beginning of every prayer. After this, you should fold your arms over your chest. Right over left and say duaul-istiftah (beginning prayer), which is pronounced only when performing the first rak'ah of each prayer (see appendix). After this, you need to read Surah Al-Fatiha and what you can from the Koran and completely perform the first rakat as explained earlier. After performing the first rak'ah, you should immediately begin the second, taking a standing position, reading Surah Al-Fatihah along with what you can from the Koran, and completely performing the second rak'ah to the end. After completing the second rak'ah, it is necessary to perform jalsat at-tashahhud, i.e. sit, fully reading the greetings, tashahhud and salat of Ibrahim (see detailed presentation 7), and then the words of taslim are pronounced

As-salamu alaikum va rahmatu - Allah (peace and mercy of Allah be upon you), turning your head to the right and left. On this morning prayer ends, and while performing these two rak'ahs you can read Surah Al-Fatiha aloud and whatever is easy for you from the Koran.

    2. Lunch prayer.

Lunch prayer consists of four rak'ahs. First, you should say takbira-l-ihram and dua-l-istiftah in a standing position, and then perform two rak'ahs one after the other. After their completion, you should sit and read the greetings and the intermediate tashahhud (see detailed presentation 6), after which you should proceed to the third rak'ah. To do this, you need to stand up, raise your arms to shoulder level with the words
Allahu Akbar and from this position proceed to perform two more rak'ahs. Having completed the fourth rak'ah, you must sit and read the greetings, the last tashahhud and the salat of Ibrahim in full, and then say the words of taslim. Please note that there is no need to read aloud during the midday prayer.

    3. Afternoon prayer.

Afternoon prayer consists of four rak'ahs and is performed in the same way as lunch prayer.

    4. Evening prayer.

Evening prayer consists of three rak'ahs. Like the previous two prayers, you should begin this prayer with takbira-l-ihram and dua-l-istiftah, and then perform two rak'ahs, reading the verses of the Quran out loud. After the second rak'ah, you need to sit and read the greetings until the end of tashahhud. After this, you should stand up to perform the third rak'ah and raise your hands to shoulder level, saying the words

Allahu Akbar. Having taken a standing position, you should begin to perform this rak'ah, but do not read anything out loud (this must be done during the first two rak'ahs). Having completed this rakat, it is necessary to sit for the final tashahhud, completely reading the greetings, tashahhud and salat of Ibrahim, completing the prayer with taslim.

    5. Night prayer.

The night prayer consists of four rak'ahs and is carried out in the same way as the midday and afternoon prayers, however, Surah Al-Fatihah and other verses of the Koran should be read aloud only during the first and second rak'ahs.

Bismillah, Alhamdulillah.

A beginner in performing namaz must know the number of rakats (rakats) in each, because. This is one of the conditions for the validity of prayer. Those. if a person does not know how many rakats he will make, then he does not have a clear intention. Therefore, with the permission of Allah, I will try to answer these questions simply and clearly.

There are five obligatory prayers during the day and night. It would be good to remember their names in Arabic. And it's not difficult.

1. Fajr prayer (dawn, sometimes called morning, which is not correct, because morning is “dukha” and at this time there is another optional prayer, described here.)

2. Zuhr prayer (midday prayer, sometimes called "lunch")

3. Asr prayer (afternoon).

4. Maghrib prayer (sunset, the one that is done immediately after breaking the fast/iftar after fasting. Often called evening, which is also incorrect, because. the next prayer is more consistent with being called evening prayer.)

5. Isha prayer (evening, often called nocturnal. However, it would be more correct additional prayers after Isha before the beginning of Fajr they are called night ones)

What is indicated in the comments to each prayer is not the cause of disputes between Muslims. The main thing is that you are aware of which of the obligatory prayers you are performing. And if you got up, say, for Maghrib prayer, having become accustomed to calling it evening prayer, and Isha prayer - night prayer, then in sha Allah, there is no problem in what your intention is to do “ evening prayer”, if you realize that this is Maghrib, consisting of 3 rakats.

How many rak'ahs are there in Fajr (dawn) prayer?

2 (two rak'ahs). Both are done out loud. Those. so that your reading can be heard and understood by those in the small room with you.

How many rakats are read in the Zuhr (lunch, midday) prayer?

4 (four rak'ahs). They are all read in a whisper. Those. so that your tongue and lips move and in silence you can hear your reading. It’s even clearer if you put it this way: read as if you were whispering in a person’s ear so that he could hear you. It is not enough to simply move your lips and tongue, and, moreover, simply read the words of prayer in your heart without pronouncing them.

How many rak'ahs are there in the afternoon Asr prayer?

4 (four). The reading conditions are the same as for the Zuhr prayer.

How many rak'ahs are in the Maghrib prayer (sunset, called evening*)?

3 (three rak'ahs). The first two are read aloud, as described for the Fajr prayer, the third rak'ah is read in a whisper, following the example of Zuhr or Asr.

How many rakats are in the Isha prayer, called night prayer*?

4 (four). Here, too, the first two rak'ahs are read aloud, following the example of the Fajr prayer, and the last two are read in a whisper, as described earlier.

* For descriptions and comments on titles, see the beginning of the article.

Attention! For a traveler, the Sunnah is to reduce the prayers of Zuhr, Asr and Isha to 2 rak'ahs. But this is a separate topic.

Allah knows best.

P.S. If you have any questions or comments, please ask/write in the comments. I will try to clarify the question or correct it if something is wrong, with the permission of Allah.

Paying tribute to devotion to the Almighty, Muslims say a canonical prayer from the verses of the Koran - namaz. Believers must perform it five times a day. Turning to God, they perform a certain sequence of sacred actions. In Islam it was called “rakat”. A prayer consisting of several rak'ahs is not counted by Allah if the order of its performance is incorrect.

Rakat in prayer

Each prayer cycle, called rakat, includes several mandatory stages:

  • Takbir - exaltation of the Almighty. The believer pronounces the words “Allahu Akbar.” Translated from Arabic they mean “Allah is Great.”

  • Reading Surah Al-Fatihah. Pronounce sacred prayer Muslims are in the qiyam (standing) position.
  • Hand - bow from the waist. The believer bends down so that his palms reach his knees, and lingers in this position for a short time, then straightens up.
  • Sajdu - bow to the ground. A Muslim prostrates himself before the Almighty, touching the floor with his forehead and nose, thus expressing his devotion to Him. Then he straightens up, remaining in a sitting position.
  • The second bow to the ground, after which the believer straightens up, thereby ending the rakat.
  • This description is general in nature. Rak'ahs in different prayers may differ slightly from each other. The execution also changes depending on the counting cycle in the prayer. For example, if the rakat ends the prayer, it should end with the recitation of the dua “At-Tahiyat” and taslim. Before the third cycle of prayer, you must also say dua, then make takbir. Otherwise, you can proceed to the next cycle without additional actions.

How many rak'ahs are there in a prayer?

When performing prayer, Muslims repeat the above cycle several times. It is worth noting that each prayer contains a different number of rakats. It depends on the time of day at which it takes place. In Islam there are:

  • Fajr - morning prayer.

  • Zuhr - midday prayer.
  • Asr - afternoon prayer.
  • Maghrib - evening prayer.
  • Isha - night prayer.
  • Fajr prayer includes two rak'ahs. Say sacred words in morning time should be said out loud, so that they can be heard by those who are close to the person praying. Zuhr and Asr, consisting of four rakats, on the contrary, should be read in a whisper. Maghrib prayer consists of three rak'ahs. Moreover, Muslims pronounce the first two out loud, just like morning prayer. Believers read the last rakat in prayer very quietly, like zuhr and asr. Isha consists of four rak'ahs. The first two are spoken out loud, the last two in a whisper.

    Fard Rakats and Sunnah Rakats

In Islam, rak'ahs are divided into two types: fard and sunnah. The first ones are considered mandatory. They were discussed above. Sunnah rakats in prayers, on the contrary, are performed voluntarily. However, their number in prayer is strictly determined by religion.

Thus, in Fajr prayer, believers are allowed to perform two sunnah rakats before the obligatory ones. The procedure is somewhat more complicated when performing the midday prayer. In Zuhr prayer, it is customary to perform four sunnah rakats before the main cycles and two after them. Asr includes a sequence of four sunnah rakats and four fard rakats.

After the mandatory cycles of evening and night prayers a Muslim can optionally perform two additional ones. Isha ends with three witr rakat (actions close to obligatory). Performing sunnah rak'ahs is encouraged in Islam. After all, a Muslim thus proves the strength and sincerity of his faith. However, the absence of sunnah rakats in prayer is not considered a sin and does not lead to punishment on the Day of Judgment.

Now you know what Rakats are in prayer: description, features. How many rakats are in each prayer?, you can read about this here, and also see other prayers and articles about religion online!

If a person begins to doubt the prayer, not being able to remember whether he performed three rak'ahs or four, then, if these doubts are not a constant occurrence for the person, then he should perform the prayer again. To start the prayer again, it is best to greet while sitting. Because according to the narration of Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him!), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him!) said: “If any of you begins to doubt how many rakats he performed in prayer, then let him perform prayer again."

If such forgetfulness comes to a person often, then he should complete the prayer, relying on what he is more confident in. If a person chooses between three and four rak'ahs, then let him prefer what he is more confident in, since if a person often succumbs to these doubts, it will become difficult for him to perform the prayer again every time. On this issue, according to the narration of Abdullah ibn Masud (may Allah be pleased with him!), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him!) said: “If any of you doubts the prayer, then let him find out the truth and finish the prayer ( relying on this truth). After this, let him salute and bow to the ground twice.”

According to the narration of Abu Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him!), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him!) said:

“If any of you begins to doubt whether he has performed three or four rak'atas in prayer, then let him cast aside doubts and finish the prayer, relying on what he remembers for sure. Before greeting, let him bow to the ground twice! If a person has performed five rakats, then these two bows will intercede for him and his prayer. If he has performed the required number of rakats, then these two bows will be the reason for the shaitan to move away from this person.”

Anyone who begins to doubt the number of rak'ahs performed and cannot come to any decision, let him take minimum number, in which he is confident. Because he will be absolutely sure of this. Let this person sit in every rak'ah he sees fit. This way he will not miss a seat that is fard or wajib. For example, if a person performs a prayer of four rak'ahs and does not remember whether he is now performing the first rak'ah or the second, then let him think about the question and continue according to that. If this does not lead to anything, then let him continue the prayer, considering that he has performed at least one rak'ah. However, since this may be the second rak'ah, he performs sitting after it. Because sitting after the second rak'ah is wajib. Then he gets up and performs another rak'ah, after which he sits again.

The proof that the minimum number of rak'ahs must be taken into account is as follows: according to the narration of Abdurrahman ibn Auf (may Allah be pleased with him!), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him!) said: “If one of you forgets in prayer, and does not know whether he has performed one rak'ah or two, then let him consider that he has performed one; if he does not know whether he has performed two or three rak'ahs, then let him consider that he has performed two; if he does not know whether he has made three or four, then let him consider that he has made three, and then, before greeting, let him make two additional prostrations.”

The narration cited by Ibn Majah shows even more clearly that “one should take as a basis what there is confidence in”: “If any of you doubts between one and two, then let him take one as a basis; if in doubt between two and three, then let him take two as a basis; if he doubts between three and four, then let him take three as a basis and let him finish the prayer based on this, and let his fears remain with what is greater. While seated, let him make two prostrations before greeting.”
